Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between margin and markup?

Markup refers to the purchase price, margin to the selling price. Example: buy for 20 €, sell for 30 €. Profit 10 €. Markup 50% (10 of 20), margin 33.3% (10 of 30).

Why is margin always smaller than markup?

Because you divide by a larger number: the selling price instead of the purchase price. A margin of 100% is never possible, a markup of 100% is.

How do I get from net to gross?

Net price times 1.19 at 19% VAT, times 1.07 at 7%. The calculator shows you both.

Are fees and fixed costs required?

No, set them to 0 if you do not need them. They do reduce your real profit and belong in an honest price calculation.
